Gian Marco Folcolini

Food Photographer

I am a food photographer. A complex subject, different from all the others. A Living subject.

What does it mean taking food photographs to me? It means bringing life to the things I photograph. In food, this means reproducing the passion that the cook puts into dishes, too.

Food editorial and advertising are two different photographic subjects that travel on parallel tracks. Food advertising requires a dedicated and complex commercial lighting technique, with attention to the smallest detail, which leaves no room for imperfections. It requires time and expertise to study the best side of the product.

Editorial food is a living matter. We all have our favorite foods, whether they are prepared by our mom or by a chef at a starred restaurant. The concept of food is the same for everyone, but the dress that is sewn on him by more or less expert hands is different every time. This dress must show itself to our eyes in every photograph. Food is life, and the biggest mistake a food photographer can make is to stand on a tripod and wait for the photo to be composed.

I walk around the dish until it shows me the soul of the person who prepared it in its best side. I go deep into every recipe and every ingredient.
